Main Story: Lessons From The Book: Tighten The Lug Nuts
The Lesson: Leaders must ensure there are no barriers to communication.
Develop a reliable process for communicating that fits your style.
To be a good communicator you first need to understand your role as a leader, what you do, as well as what’s expected of you.
To inspire openness and trust, listen with the intent to act and invite feedback. Articulate a clear set of organizational values that embrace integrity, fairness, and compassion.
Values communicate beliefs.
Thoughtful leaders listen and act on what they learn. This honesty and openness inspires trust, reinforces relationships, and secures the loyalty of employees, customers, and investors.
Good communication is vital in a business environment marked by uncertainty and change and promotes healthy relationship.
Over the next few editions of our newsletter we will explore the many concepts and thoughts from the book, Tighten The Lug Nuts, and how it can be your guide in business and life, both personally and professionally.
Stay tuned.
I am very interested and am sure you have your own thoughts that you would like to share. Please email me with your ideas about any of the items above at [email protected].

What Others Are Saying . . .
“Providing leadership opportunities and practical experience is core to our program. Your perspectives gave our young people insights within the business community that we generally do not offer. A balanced exposure is necessary to help form a wellrounded leader.”
John T. Dempster, Jr. Division; US Naval Sea Cadet Corps
““…Quite frankly, your keynote address was one of the best we’ve ever had. It’s clear that you spoke to us from your heart. You were presenting, not mere team management principles, but rather a philosophy of life, one that you clearly believe and live by. It was very enthusiastically received. Here are just some of the comments I got from our members after your presentation: “Loved the energy.” “Very energetic. Great info and all useful.” “Challenging in a positive way.” “Relevant. Enjoyable.” “Bring him back!” I am especially grateful for the advanced preparation you did, calling our members, getting to know the issues they face and tailoring your presentation to the unique needs of our group. You hit this one out of the park”

BE THE BEST IN THE INDUSTRY
Rocky Romanella, Sr. Partner at 3SIXTY, shares a popular story he often includes in his keynotes:
I have been fortunate through my career to work with, learn from and mentor some incredible people. I often get asked in these difficult economic times and in this frustrating job market for advice, encouragement and suggestions. Although I do not profess to be an expert, I am a life-long learner who has been shaped and influenced by some outstanding people at all levels, with traits, skills and beliefs that often emerge as common threads.
One commonality is values. Growing up, my father would emphasize, “It is what you do when no one is watching that counts.” He was alluding to integrity, which is a deeply personal value. I believe both integrity of your word as well as your actions are equally significant. Most can relate to the integrity of one’s actions. You act professionally. You refrain from taking what’s not yours. In today’s busy world, I think integrity of one’s word is often overshadowed. To me, integrity of one’s word simply means to make a commitment and keep it. Do what you say. Be accountable to yourselves and others. Follow up when you say you will. Promptly return phone calls and reply to emails. Please feel free to share your thoughts about values and integrity by email:

Coach’s Corner – Exclusive never-seen before interview with UCLA Coach John Wooden
In every newsletter I include a quote from UCLA Coach John Wooden, whom I had the great pleasure to interview while I was a leader at UPS. Coach often said, “If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not doing anything. I’m positive that a doer makes mistakes.” Click below to view the full interview.
If you play a coaching role (and we all do), please look at the unique and exclusive interview with legendary Coach John Wooden on our website. Coach Wooden was a supporter of the Jimmy V Foundation and in memory of Coach Valvano, who passed away, April 28, 1993, we are remembering Coach Valvano and his fight by donating one dollar to the Jimmy V Fund to find the cure for each copy of Tighten The Lug Nuts sold.
Thank you in advance for your generous support and enjoy the book.
The Video Library is Here (And, You Don’t Need a Library Card)
Time is of the essence for all of us. We are overloaded with information – so much so that we simply cannot digest it all. For this reason, I am very excited to announce our new video library.
Here you can explore important concepts in mere minutes. Short on ideas for your next meeting? There are loads of ideas here. Need a quick video for your next gathering? Looking for a keynote speaker or advisor? You might find just what you are looking for here.
If you read only one business book this year, this is the one.
Few business books offer new, innovative approaches to leading companies to success. Fewer still speak clearly to the key points necessary to become an effective leader. Only a miniscule number of books could be called a “game changer”. Tighten The Lug Nuts is all of that and more.
“Excellent and easy read. The way Rocky tells stories is amazing and the tips and overall theme of the book can be applied to any business and all levels of employees. It’s very simple and straightforward information. Lots of books out there that focus on leadership and similar topics are long winded and drawn out where this is straight to the point and easy to take action on within your own professional career. Hope Rocky puts out some more books!” – Amazon review, Peter N.
